Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle: Theatrical Guide, Karasuno...

The most anticipated match in sports anime history finally takes center stage on the silver screen in Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle (Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen). Produced by Production I.G under the direction of Susumu Mitsunaka, this theatrical masterpiece adapts the historic Nationals Round 3 duel between Karasuno High (The Crows) and Nekoma High (The Cats).

1. Overview: The "Battle of the Trash Heap" Promised Across Generations

Since the days of former coaches Ukai Ikkei and Nekomata Yasufumi, Karasuno and Nekoma have forged a storied rivalry built on numerous practice matches and summer training camps. However, they had never faced each other in an official national tournament match where a loss means immediate elimination.

This is the long-awaited "Battle of the Trash Heap"—a match with no second chances, where the winner advances to the Nationals Quarterfinals and the loser goes home.

The Central Dynamic: Shoyo Hinata vs. Kenma Kozume At the emotional core of the film is the bond between Karasuno's energetic middle blocker Shoyo Hinata and Nekoma's reclusive, gaming-obsessed setter Kenma Kozume. Kenma, who normally views volleyball as merely a chore he plays for childhood friend Kuroo Tetsuro, is pushed to his absolute physical and mental limits by Hinata's relentless joy for the game, culminating in the unforgettable confession: "Volleyball is fun."

2. Match Tactics: The Crows' Offense vs. The Cats' Defense

The clash between Karasuno and Nekoma is a tactical masterclass in opposing volleyball philosophies:

3. Production I.G's Theatrical Animation & First-Person Camera

Director Susumu Mitsunaka returned to direct the film, bringing an unprecedented level of visual kinetic energy:

• The Climactic First-Person POV Rally: The final rally of the third set is animated entirely from Kenma's exhausted first-person perspective, showcasing sweat-blurred vision, gasping breath, and the sheer sensory chaos of tracking a volleyball moving at lightning speed across the court.
• Sound Design & IMAX Acoustical Mix: Every shoe squeak against the hardwood court, every clean ball strike, and the roar of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium crowd were mixed with pristine spatial accuracy.
• SPYAIR's Anthem 'Orange': Longtime franchise musical partner SPYAIR delivers an emotionally resonant theme song that captures the bittersweet farewell between two teams of lifelong friends.

4. Manga Reading Order & What Comes Next

For fans wondering what follows the Dumpster Battle:

• Adapted Manga Chapters: The movie covers Chapters 294 through 325 of Haruichi Furudate's Haikyu!! manga.
• The Next Movie Event: The second movie in the final two-part theatrical project will cover the Nationals Quarterfinals: Karasuno vs. Kamomedai High (featuring the duel between Hinata and the "Little Giant" Korai Hoshiumi).
